Gabon - Mobile Recording Studio
Project: Consultancy and technical design, technical installation and equipment supply and deployment of a new mobile recording studio
Dates: December 2014 – January 2015
We were approached, along with our acoustics partners, by a representative of the President of Gabon, who was looking at suppliers able to build and supply a mobile and fixed studio.
After providing detailed designs for both the fixed studio and mobile solutions, we levered our Avid status to access limited stock of the Pro Tools solution, and were able to influence SSL and Panasonic to divert stock from other projects.
Time was one of the more significant challenges - we had less than two months to complete and ship the mobile unit, and ensure the fixed studio solution was ready to fly. The Christmas shutdown also affected inbound shipping and technical resource availability.
Our partners located a suitable trailer, and handled the coach building enhancements, whilst we provided technical design and installation services, pre-wiring and testing the equipment.
With the base truck cosmetic build underway our wiring team installed containment and first and second fix cabling to the agreed schedule and designs, testing cables and updating drawings accordingly.
The pre-tested equipment was moved into the truck and fixed in place, and full system commissioning was undertaken.
The final challenge was moving the truck from the UK to Gabon, due to the extremely tight timeline. Having agreed an air charter for the 40-foot trailer as the solution, we located and arranged a suitable aircraft. The aircraft was met by our installation team who handed over the truck and commenced the fixed studio build.
As the client was new to the overall system and operation, we created detailed user guides, and a trainer flew to site to complete the handover aspect of the project.
